16:44:02  <devurandom>creationix: Thanks for giving me access to the repos!
16:44:27  <devurandom>I fixed the system-header thing and merged my lua51 submodule update pullrequest.

17:16:05  <creationix>devurandom, thanks for helping
17:16:32  <devurandom>Anytime. And thanks for helping me.
17:17:38  <devurandom>minor update: I think trying to use lua-cyrussasl was a failure, because that ties it quite strongly to the cyrus-sasl server, which I do not want to use. I am now looking into gsasl and will maybe write some bindings for it.
17:44:01  <devurandom>Hm, it appears that I am akwardly off when I use any library at all... Apparently they do not implement talking to a generic "SASL" authentication server, but are just checking SASL messages against their very own implementation/server.
17:45:03  <devurandom>So if I want to support authenticating against such SASL implementation, I have to write one implementation per library.
17:45:48  <devurandom>I'll just implement the dovecot-sasl protocol, for which I don't need any lib at all, but just need to read/write on a socket.
17:48:05  <devurandom>So the wrapping now is: http-basic-auth -> my-lua-abstraction -> my-dovecot-sasl-implementation -> dovecot-sasl -- rotflmao -- I thought using SASL would simplify stuff. I might as well write PAM bindings...
17:59:21  <rphillips>devurandom: i missed it, but what are you using luvit for?
17:59:47  <devurandom>rphillips: I want to write a web-application. (Similar to what PHP might have been used for.)
18:00:26  <devurandom>rphillips: Precisely: <devurandom> I would like to write a simple server in Lua, with simple authentication (pam or ldap), which receives some data over http and stores it in a database. As bonus features I would like to write a web frontend that displays the contents of that database and presents a form to enter new data.
18:01:04  <rphillips>oh neat
18:01:06  <rphillips>open source?
18:01:57  <devurandom>(Since not everyone shall be allowed to enter or read the data, I need authentication. Since luvit does not provide that for http, I need to implement it. And since there appears to be no authentication library for Lua, I need to implement that, too.)
18:02:09  <devurandom>rphillips: If my employer does not disagree: Yes, open-source

19:55:24  <creationix>alright, the cat is out of the bag. I'm now officially an independent consultant.
19:55:43  <creationix>hopefully I can find some sponsors for luvit, moonslice, luv, etc..
