06:33:49  <snausage>another question, if i was to get the Small $7 / MONTH plan, would that scale and handle load better if i wast to just install it node.js plain on an amazon ec2 instance?
06:34:11  <snausage>im wondering if there is some secret sauce that handles load better on nodejitsu than a vanilla node install in a linux vm
06:35:57  <anoemi>snausage: if you were to get yourself an ec2 instance, it'd be up to you to manage your app and figure everything out yourself
06:37:12  <snausage>right, but lets say i learned how to just install node.js plain and started hosting, what am i gaining by nodejitsu? Im not trying to downplay nodejitsu either, im just genuinely curious
06:37:19  <anoemi>so it really depends on whether you want to manage every aspect of your app yourself
06:38:22  <snausage>what aspects of the app should i be concerned about?
06:39:14  <anoemi>its really about how much configuration you want to be doing
06:40:07  <anoemi>on nodejitsu we've done it all for you and we give you single line deployment, and support in IRC, we think about your dependencies for you, etc.
06:41:01  <snausage>what about the scaling aspect?
06:43:13  <anoemi>our individual plans give you a 256MB slice and we'll keep an eye on things for you. in the near term, our business plans will be available, and they'll let you determine how much capacity you give to a single app.

22:44:16  <filmaj>i see.
22:44:41  <filmaj>ill start stripping away bits and see if i can identify what if anything makes an impact
22:44:44  <filmaj>im listening to a port pretty quick
22:44:52  <filmaj>i do my "api boot up" after i start listening
22:45:05  <filmaj>which involves talking to a couch
22:45:19  <blakmatrix>try your boot up 10 o so seconds after listening on a port
22:45:27  <filmaj>will do
22:45:29  <blakmatrix>that should help a lot
22:45:37  <filmaj>listen, i really appreciate you taking the time to answer my q's

22:52:41  <blakmatrix>filmaj: I like to think that once your app is "started", you get back that it started and is ok, that thats when the startup garbage Collection takes place.... but I'm not devops so i dont know for sure, I just know that startup process is crucial and takes quite a bit of the 256 MB RAM, and that in general any extra "stuff" you do before listening on a port increases the chance the app will have a memory leak
22:52:41  <blakmatrix>or use up too much memory
22:53:01  <filmaj>cool
22:53:06  <filmaj>i will experiment and try to work around that!
22:53:06  <filmaj>thanks
